Senior agencies provide free information about a wide range of benefit programs and services for elders, and will help you get the assistance you need. Calling one of these agencies is a good way to start if you want to find out what types of senior services are available in your community.
Massachusetts has many benefit programs to help senior residents. Some of these programs are specifically for seniors. Other programs are not specifically for seniors, but offer help to all Massachusetts residents who meet the eligibility requirements. These programs may have special rules or benefits for seniors.

The Social Security Retirement Program is a federal insurance program that provides retirement cash benefits for eligible workers and their families based on retirement age and the worker's lifetime Social Security earnings. It is not a need-based program.
Elders being abused by their caregivers or living alone in neglect can get protective services from their local ASAP or by calling the Elder Abuse Hotline at 1-800-922-2275.
Seniors who need support services but wish to live at home can get help from home care programs. Some programs also offer respite services to caregivers. Home care programs provide personal care assistance, medication monitoring, housekeeping, home health care, adult day care, meal preparation, laundry, transportation, and other services. Home care programs can delay or prevent nursing facility placements.
