General Information about Transit Authorities

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) and 15 Regional Transit Authorities (RTAs) are in charge of public transportation in Massachusetts. Your local transit authority will answer any questions you have about public transportation services.

For MBTA questions, call 1-800-392-6100 or go to the MBTA web site. For other regions, see the EOT Regional Transit Authority Search Tool or RTA Contact Information for phone numbers and other information.

Discount Bus Fares

Discount bus fares allow seniors, people with disabilities, and children to ride public fixed route buses at half fare. Seniors and people with disabilities must have an identification card to receive the discount.
