    Description: The AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts (AAC) is a nonprofit organization whose goal is to help improve the lives of Massachusetts residents already infected with HIV, and to prevent further HIV infections.

    Services: AAC provides direct client services, prevention services, and advocacy. AAC's services are free and confidential. Direct client services include case management, counseling, nutrition, housing, peer support, legal services, and transportation assistance. The AAC also maintains an online HIV Health Library.

    Description: The AIDS Housing Corporation (AHC) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to create safe affordable housing for people living with HIV/AIDS in New England. The AHC provides technical assistance for developers of supportive housing, and works to increase funding for housing for people with HIV/AIDS and other disabilities.

    Services: AHC maintains the HIV/AIDS Housing Program Directory, publishes the HIV Housing Search Handbook, provides technical assistance to supportive housing developers, and advocates on behalf of people with HIV and other disabilities.

    Description: Community Research Initiative (CRI) is an independent, nonprofit community-based organization dedicated to leading the way in HIV/AIDS clinical research, ensuring access to life-saving medications, and providing financial assistance for approved drug treatments and health insurance coverage for those in need.

    Services: CRI administers the Massachusetts HIV Drug Assistance Program (HDAP) which provides access to critical HIV-related medications for Massachusetts residents who are otherwise unable to pay for these drugs. CRI also offers HIV/AIDS clinical research trials that allow participants to try new treatments before they become widely available, have their care tracked by a team of medical professionals, and help others by contributing to medical research.

    Description: The HIV/AIDS Hotline is a free Massachusetts hotline for AIDS and HIV-related questions. Hotline counselors answer questions about health care, treatment options, drug use, prevention, caring for someone with AIDS, STDs, and other concerns. Counselors also give referrals for HIV testing, support groups, social services, HIV assistance programs, legal services, housing assistance, physical and mental health care, and other services.

    The AIDS Action Committee also operates a statewide Hepatitis-C Hotline:

Community Health Centers (CHCs)

Community Health Centers are located throughout Massachusetts:

All Community Health Centers (CHCs) in Massachusetts offer health care and support services to people living with HIV/AIDS. Services vary from one CHC to another, but most CHCs offer some or all of the following HIV-related services:

  • confidential HIV testing and counseling
  • education and prevention
  • HIV case management
  • complete medical care
  • substance abuse treatment
  • transportation for medical appointments
  • referrals for home care and other support services
  • applications for public benefit programs
  • mental health care
  • counseling and support groups

Service Coordination Collaboratives

Service Coordination Collaboratives work to improve the service system for people living with HIV in different geographic regions of the state. SCCs coordinate client services within their region, make sure that the service system meets the needs of area residents, and improve access to services. SCCs include HIV-specific service providers, other human services providers, and consumers.
