The Massachusetts HIV Drug Assistance Program (HDAP) is a program for HIV-positive Massachusetts residents with limited incomes. HDAP helps eligible individuals get critical life-saving HIV-related medications. HDAP can pay for medications and drug co-pays, private non-group health insurance premiums and premium co-pays, HIV resistance testing, and post-exposure prophylaxis (“PEP”) for non-occupational exposures to HIV.

HIV case management services link HIV-positive Massachusetts residents to necessary services, including primary medical care, peer support, nutrition services, mental health services, substance use services, and legal services. Case managers also help clients access those services by providing assistance with transportation and child care.

Acupuncture is a therapeutic treatment provided by licensed acupuncturists that helps relieve the pain, discomfort, and stress often associated with HIV infection. Acupuncture services are free with referral from a physician.

Peer support helps people living with HIV/AIDS cope with a variety of issues, including isolation and stigma, disclosure, and acceptance of HIV status. Anyone who is HIV-positive and lives in Massachusetts is eligible for peer support services.

Mental health services provide free short-term crisis intervention and counseling for uninsured HIV-positive individuals until traditional clinic-based mental health treatment is available.

Legal services help HIV-positive residents handle legal matters related to their HIV status. Legal services include legal advice and representation for civil legal matters such as wills, powers of attorney, bankruptcy proceedings, access to public benefits, discrimination, breach of confidentiality, and custody options for legal dependents.

Enhanced Medical Management Services (EMMS) are services that help HIV-positive clients get proper medical care and follow their treatment plans. EMMS services are provided at primary health care sites.

The Comprehensive Home-Based Medical Care Program provides home-based nursing care, preventive care, homemaking assistance, and life skills assistance to Massachusetts residents living with HIV/AIDS.

The HIV Dental Ombudsperson Program (HIV DOP) and the Ryan White Dental Treatment Fund are government-funded programs to improve dental care for people living with HIV/AIDS.

Massachusetts Community AIDS Resource Enhancement (MassCARE) is a statewide program for women, children, youth, and their families who are living with or affected by HIV. MassCARE provides case management, health care, specialty care for pregnant women and children who are HIV positive, peer support for adolescents, and many other family support services.

The LIFE (Learning Immune Function Enhancement) Program is a 16-week program that teaches people living with HIV/AIDS new ways to improve their health. The program focuses on the relationship between mind and body and the psychological and social factors that slow down progression of HIV disease and improve chances of long-term survival.
