What is the Veterans' Services program?
Veterans' Services (VS) is a program that provides cash and medical assistance to Massachusetts wartime veterans and their families who are in need of immediate help. VS also provides referrals to employment, education, housing, substance abuse treatment, and other services to help veterans find a solution to their problems.
Who runs Veterans' Services?
Veterans' Services is both a local and state program. Each city and town in Massachusetts has a Veterans' Services office with a Veterans' Service Officer (VTO) who runs the program locally. All local programs are regulated by a state Commissioner of Veterans' Services. The cities and towns contribute 25% of the funding, and the state of Massachusetts contributes the other 75%.
Is the VS program the same as the VA program?
Veterans' Services (VS) and Veterans' Affairs (VA) are not the same. Veterans' Services (VS) is a local and state program that provides short-term financial and medical assistance to needy Massachusetts wartime veterans. The Department of Veterans' Affairs is a federal program that provides veterans with education benefits, pensions, home loans, and treatment of service-related injuries or illnesses.
What are my rights regarding Veterans’ Services?
