Football and spirit squads

American Youth Football and Cheer

American Youth Football and Cheer is an international organization that promotes youth football and cheerleading for children and teens. Communities that join AYF/AYC usually offer flag football, tackle football, and cheer squads for ages 7 to 14. Local leagues make their own rules within AYF/AYC guidelines.

To protect the safety of the participants and to make the competitions fair, children of similar ages and weights are assigned to teams and squads. There are special provisions for football players whose weight is lower than average for their age group (older/lighter). All programs teach basic skills, fitness, and conditioning, and encourage good sportsmanship, respect, and academic excellence. AYF is a national partner of the National Football League.

The fee for AYF/AYC programs is set by the local organizations. The fee usually covers uniforms and equipment, transportation, insurance, referees, and field fees.
