What is MassHealth Limited?

MassHealth Limited is emergency medical coverage for noncitizens who are not eligible for other MassHealth programs because of immigration status, including undocumented noncitizens.

Am I eligible?

Noncitizens who meet all of the eligibility requirements for MassHealth Standard except for immigration status are eligible for MassHealth Limited. You do not have to give or apply for a Social Security number to qualify, and your immigration status will NOT be reported to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS). Undocumented noncitizens may apply without fear of deportation.

The following people may be eligible:

• pregnant women
• children under the age of 1
• children under 19 years of age
• parents and caretaker relatives living with children under 19 years of age
• disabled individuals
• individuals who are 65 years of age and over

You can use the MassHealth Eligibility Check to see if you are likely to qualify for MassHealth benefits.

What are the income and asset limits?

• For pregnant women, income must be less than or equal to 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines (FPG).

• For children under the age of 1, income must be less than or equal to 200% of the FPG.

• For children under 19 years of age, income must be less than or equal to 150% of the FPG.

• For parents with children under 19 years of age, family income must be less than or equal to 133% of the FPG.

• For disabled individuals, income must be less than or equal to 133% of the FPG.

• For individuals who are 65 years of age and over, income must be less than or equal to 100% of the FPG. Assets cannot be greater than $2000 for an individual or $3000 for a couple.

What benefits will I get?

The benefits are for emergency medical care only, including:

• inpatient and outpatient emergency care,
• labor and delivery services,
• emergency visits to the emergency room
• pharmacy services to treat a medical emergency
• other emergency services, including dental care and mental health care
• ambulance transportation for a medical emergency

Your coverage may begin 10 days before the date MassHealth received your application, if you get all necessary information to them within 60 days.

How much does it cost?

There are no fees. MassHealth Limited is free.
