Transportation Services
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) and 15 Regional Transit Authorities (RTAs) are in charge of subways, fixed route bus service, and paratransit van service in cities and towns throughout Massachusetts. Seniors, people with disabilities, and children qualify for reduced-cost transportation and other special services. In some cases, MassHealth and other benefit programs pay transportation costs for medical appointments, child care, or jobs.

Public Transit Subway and Bus Service

The MBTA and Regional Transit Authorities (RTAs) provide subway and local bus transportation in cities and towns throughout Massachusetts. Seniors, people with disabilities, and children who ride the subways and local buses are eligible for special discount bus fares.

Paratransit and Elder Van Service

Special curb-to-curb van services are available for people who cannot use the subway or local fixed route bus system because of a disability. Van service is also available to seniors for medical appointments and other transportation needs.

MassHealth Transportation

MassHealth members who need non-emergency transportation to and from medical appointments may be eligible for free dial-a-ride van or taxi service, or reimbursement for public transportation costs.
